As some of you already know, my go-to social media platform for casual and fun chat has been Bluesky. Because I get carried away sometimes, I often write long threads consisting of many posts.

Which is why I was intrigued by Bluesky's recent post:

Bluesky (@bsky.app)
If you like writing long threads on Bluesky, wait until you discover "blog posts." Start blogging with @pckt.blog, @leaflet.pub or @offprint.app today and get 25% off your first year, on us. https://bsky.social/about/blog/06-22-2026-summer-of-standard-site

I am testing out this platform as a potential tool that I can use not only for my author updates but also to replace some of the long threads I have been posting on Bluesky.

Things I like so far

  • How responsive the developers are on Bluesky.

  • Because publications on Leaflet are built on the AT Protocol (which powers Bluesky), it means I'm not locked into one platform. Plus the integration means that social features like quotes/comments carry over to Bluesky -- apologies if I'm using the wrong terminology. I'm still learning, and will post again with examples when I have a clearer understanding.

  • Formatting options. And it uses at least some markdown! I tried this out of the blue, with the "Things I like so far" to see what would happen. However, you don't need to use markdown since there are also regular formatting options available.

  • I can edit posts even after publishing. It might be good, though, to have some kind of indication that a post has been edited -- that way people browsing any comments will know that the original post may have changed.

On my wishlist so far:

  • Better (any?) user documentation, ideally with visual examples.

  • Before publicly sharing a Draft, it would be good to have a confirmation step. Like "Are you sure? This means anyone who clicks on the link will be able to edit your post." This would help prevent accidental posting of the wrong link, which is what I did earlier today. 😊 And since there was no way to modify permissions or change the link, I had to delete the post entirely.

Summary:

For an early-stage app, I am intrigued by Leaflet and its potential! And with the developer(s) being so responsive and communicative online, I am hopeful enough to keep experimenting with this app.
